The Mount Ayr community Board of Education covered a wide range of items at its regular meeting held Monday, May 13.

   After 30 minutes of discussion at a special meeting Tuesday night, the Mount Ayr city council voted unanimously to take over residential garbage service effective no later than June 30.

The Ringgold County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, May 13.  

Ringgold county is among 15 Iowa counties declared disaster areas as the result of recent heavy rains and subsequent flooding. 

  The Amercian Legion posts of Ringgold county are planning a dedication ceremony for the  Ringgold County Freedom Rock at 1:30 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. 

  Rumors have recently been flying about a Hollywood movie to be filmed in Mount Ayr in the near future. 

Near the bottom of Monday night’s Mount Ayr city council agenda was the item entitled “Decision on direction to proceed with residential garbage removal.” The discussion lasted nearly 45 minutes and at times became heated. 

The state appeal board has ruled on the protests of the FY 2014 budgets for the Ringgold County Hospital, the county assessor, the county agriculture extension board and the E911 board. 

A 1960s beach party theme and a picnic dinner to go along with it will be offered by the Ringgold Singers in their annual spring concert Friday, May 10. 

The Iowa Street Rod Association’s second annual Mother’s Day Weekend Hot Rod Run will make a stop in Mount Ayr Saturday. 

Mount Ayr’s Raiderettes will send three relay teams and three individuals to state competion May 17-18 in Des Moines. 

   The Mount Ayr Raiders qualified nine events for the state meet in the district competition held Thursday, May 9 at Greenfield. 

  The Mount Ayr Raider golf team won the sectional title, Friday, May 10 with a score of 363. Raiderette golfer Caitlin Giles has advanced to Regional 2 competition based upon her fifth-place finish at the Regional 1 golf tournament held at The Preserve at Rathbun Lake  on Monday, May 13. 

  The Raiders dominated the Pride of Iowa conference track meet and prepared for district action with a second-place finish at the Nodaway Valley Invitational.

Mount Ayr’s middle school track teams dominated their fields and brought home two first-place team trophies from the Bedford Invitational held Monday, April 29.  

The Raider track team saw an “event-packed end to the week,” in coach Brad Elliott’s words, as they  participated at both the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 25, in Des Moines and at Bedford on Friday, April 26 in the Bedford Invitational. 

   On a great day to golf,  the Mount Ayr boys and girls golf teams competed in the Pride of Iowa conference tournament Monday, April 29. 

The Mount Ayr girls track team competed in a pair of meets last week at Bedford and Clarke of Osceola.  

If the weather cooperates, the Mount Ayr girls track team will host its annual Raiderette Relays Thursday, May 2 with field events scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with running events at 5:30 p.m. 

The Mount Ayr middle school Raiderettes brought home the first place trophy and the Raiders came in second  in the Pride of Iowa West Conference Meet held Thursday, April 25 at Corning.
