Brandi Goodale, a senior at Diagonal Community high school, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Southwestern Community College for the 2010-2011 school year.
Goodale plans to attend SWCC to start her education for a degree in physical therapy and transfer to the University of Iowa to finish her degree. She is the daughter of Dan and Kristy Goodale of Diagonal.
During high school Goodale participated in basketball for four years, softball for four years, volleyball and golf for three years and drama and speech for four years. Goodale was honorable mention her sophomore year and second team all conference her junior and senior years in basketball.
She has already been lifting weights and shooting in her spare time to get ready for the college basketball career. She knows of a basketball camp that will be held in July for elementary through middle school age and high school students that she will be helping with and then one for the college team as well.
SWCC coach Buck Scheel said, “Goodale works on and off the floor, she shoots well, and leads by example.”
Buck Scheel has coached the Spartans for three years. The most important ingredient to success in athletics and life is discipline, believes Scheel. Coach Scheel is still working on building the Spartan team from ground up. The team will have five returning players next year.
Sacrifice, attitude and commitment are the philosophies Scheel lives and uses when coaching his team. Scheel has an associate’s degree in business administration and is originally from Columbus, NE.
