CHESTER RAY LESAN

CHESTER RAY LESAN, SON OF DAVID MARTIN AND SYBIL PRATT LESAN, WAS BORN AT LESANVILLE ON JUNE 6, 1868 AND DEPARTED THIS LIFE AT HIS HOME IN MOUNT AYR, FEBRUARY 19, 1944 AT THE AGE OF 75 YEARS.

HE GREW TO YOUNG MANHOOD AT LESANVILLE AND MARRIED LAURA ELLEN SHORT ON APRIL 14, 1889. TO THIS UNION WERE BORN SEVEN CHILDREN, FLOYD FOREST, LETA FERN, LILLIE REE, SUSA FAY, CLARENCE LINN, VICTOR LEE AND LURA LORAIN. HIS WIFE DIED MARCH 5, 1907.

AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE, CHESTER ASSUMED THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING BOTH FATHER AND MOTHER TO HIS FAMILY OF SMALL CHILDREN. HE TOOK CARE OF THESE CHILDREN UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO DO FOR THEMSELVES. LATER, WHEN HIS OWN CHILDREN WERE GROWN AND AWAY FROM HOME HE TOOK SPECIAL INTEREST IN THE CHILDREN OF HIS NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEY CONSIDERED HIM A FRIEND.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE METHODIST CHURCH AND ATTENDED FAITHFULLY AS LONG AS HIS HEALTH WOULD PERMIT.

CHESTER WAS WELL LOVED AND RESPECTED IN THIS COMMUNITY WHERE HE SERVED AS JANITOR AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE FOR 19 YEARS AND AT THE COURT HOUSE FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. WHILE WORKING AT THE COURT HOUSE HE SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK WHICH FORCED HIM TO RETIRE FROM ACTIVE DUTIES.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS CHILDREN, MRS. DEWEY WHITE OF LAMONI, MRS. KENT NELSON OF HATFIELD, MO., CLARENCE LESAN OF AMARILLO, TX. AND VICTOR LESAN OF KANSAS CITY, MO.; ONE BROTHER, CHARLEY LESAN OF NEWTON, IL.; TWO SISTERS, MRS. D.D. BEARD OF SHENANDOAH, AND MRS. ED MAIN OF CRESTON; TEN GRANDCHILDREN AND FIVE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO O’CLOCK FROM THE RHOADES FUNERAL HOME, CONDUCTED BY THE REV. FRANK MOORE, PASTOR OF THE METHODIST CHURCH. BURIAL WAS MADE IN THE LESANVILLE CEMETERY.
