Bruce V. Travis, Sr. May 10, 1929-August 26, 2009

 Bruce V. Travis, Sr. 80, of Creston, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. Services were Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Creston. Pastor Bob Sauser and Pastor Dan Fields officiated. Interment was at the Evergreen Cemetery near the Jerusalem Church, northeast of Creston. Powers Funeral Home junction of highways #34 and #25 in Creston handled the arrangements. Memorials are to the Mayflower Heritage Christian School and the Greater Regional Hospice Home, both in Creston. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.

Bruce Vance Travis, son of  Sylvia (LaRay) Travis and Thomas Travis, was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on May 10, 1929. He was educated in Holdrege, Nebraska and Corning, Iowa. On November 11, 1951, Bruce married Betty Hardisty at the First Baptist Church in Corning. They first lived and farmed near Sharpsburg, then to Creston, Massena and Williamson, before settling northeast of Creston in 1966. Their farming included raising cattle and hogs and working with horses throughout their life. Bruce was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston, where he served as a trustee for over 20 years. They were formerly involved with 4-H, the Creston Cozy Campers and the Union Co. Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Travis of Creston, Iowa; daughter, Rose (husband Jerry) McAlexander of Beaconsfield, Iowa; two sons, Bruce, Jr. (wife Dee) Travis and David (wife Jean) Travis, all of Creston, Iowa; one brother, Marion Travis of Chillicothe, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (fianc??e Tara), Tim (wife Sarah), Pat (wife Melissa) and Andy (wife Beckey) McAlexander, Jamie (wife Megan), Clint (wife Rachael) and Adam (wife Kelsey) Travis, Mallory (husband Kevin) Lents, Mandy (husband Drew) Henderson and Curtis (wife Chelsea) and Roxanne Travis; 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers, Paul, Thomas, John, Lloyd, Mark, Ross and Paige Travis.
