Buford D. Hall – June 17, 1926- August 18, 2009
Buford D. Hall, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 17, 1926, in Benton, Iowa, the son of Samuel Glenn Hall and Vella Ruth (Haviland) Hall. He grew up in Benton and attended Benton high school. He moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1943. He married Alice Mae Reynolds on September 19, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. They were married 63 years.
Buford served honorably in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II, from June 1944 to June 1946. He served most of his time in the South Pacific. His troop transport ship carried the Marines into Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped.
Buford was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Daniel Post. He was a Boy Scout troop leader for many years, member of Textron Retirees Club and a charter member of Maywood Evangelical Free Church. He served as deacon, church officer and on the building committee.
Survivors include wife Alice; children, Terry (Phyllis) Hall and Randy (Severina) Hall; grandchildren, Ronnie (Lila) Hall, James (Monica) Hall, Dennis (Crystal) Hall, Jennifer (Kenneth) Johnson, Laura (Gerald) Evans and Joseph Yunk, and great-grandchildren, Connor Johnson, Parker Johnson, Brandon Hall, Priscilla Hall, Brandon Hernandez, Nicole Hall, Genesis Hall, Alex Evans and Zachary Evans.
Services were held on August 24 at the Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford. Pastor Scott Nesse officiated. Burial was in the Willwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial was established. Arrangements were completed by Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel.
