Billy Emmett Harris April 2, 1940 – January 28, 2010
Billy Emmett Harris departed this life January 28, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Bill was born April 2, 1940 in Grant City, Missouri to Harley E. Harris and Marjorie (Pickering) Harris. He attended elementary school in Grant City and high school in Stanberry, Missouri.
Bill was united in marriage to Helen Robertson on December 24, 1958. To this union one son, Billy, was born.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Marjorie Rice; father, Harley Harris, and two sisters, Annette Lind and Marjorie Anderson.
Surviving are wife, Helen, of the home; son, Billy; grandsons, Brent W. Harris and Bryant McCord; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was retired from Case IH in East Moline, Illinois, where he lived for 30 years. After retiring in 1992, he purchased a small farm in Allendale, Missouri. He was active in Local 1304 U.A.W. Union. He was a counselor for the alcohol and drug abuse program at his workplace. He was also a board member at the Opportunity Workshop in Stanberry, Missouri since 2000.
Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandsons, Brent and Bryant, were the ‘Light of His Life.’ He loved fishing and hunting and living on the farm. He loved life and always had a story to tell and a smile. Bill told the story many times about the ‘mud pie’ that tasted like mud from Bar Creek that he had at his Uncle Emery and Aunt Ethel Pickering’s house.
Bill will be missed by his family and many, many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Pastor Len Green officiated. Burial was in the Kirk Cemetery near Allendale, Missouri.
