A Walk Through The Night

By the late granddaughter,

Jennifer Lee (Saville) Mellencamp

Come go with me,

Through the night.

Let’s laugh and talk,

Let’s not be blue

Walking all night,

Thinking of pretty sights.

Never wanting to turn back.

Wanting to walk forever,

On a walk with you.

Ila was born December 16, 1914 in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Lewis and Ida May (Buchanan) Sutherland.

When Ila was one month old, she lost her mother to pneumonia. Her uncle and aunt, Clyde and Leota (Olney) Sutherland became her parents.

Ila married Ansel Saville on March 17, 1934. They started their friendship in October, 1932. Their first date was to be on a Saturday evening. It was quite warm weather at the time and Ila had been mowing in the hay fields, driving horses. She had gotten too hot and became quite sick. The doctor had to come. When Ansel came, there was no date. Later in the week Ansel called and set another date. Ila and Ansel farmed and enjoyed 51 years of marriage until Ansel’s death on February 26, 1985.

Ila had a strong faith and a personal relationship with her Lord, which she relied on daily.

Survivors include two sons, Wendell Lee Saville and wife, Roberta, Doyle Dean Saville and wife, Jane, and daughter, Wilberta Weddle and husband, Buford; nine grandchildren and one deceased grandchild; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Melvin and Claude Sutherland and one grandchild, Jennifer Lee (Saville) Mellencamp.

My Grandparents

By the late granddaughter,

Jennifer Lee (Saville) Mellencamp

First comes Grandpa

who is so sweet and kind

Then comes Grandma

who gives me all her time.

I love them both so very much

I hope they love me too’.

That’s why I’m glad their mine.
