Genevieve Rogers October 31, 1911 – September 1, 2010

 Genevieve Marie (Lockwood) Rogers, the second child of Jacob and Minnie (Rains) Lockwood, was born October 31, 1911 in Woodland township, Decatur county, Iowa.

Genevieve grew up on a farm east of Woodland, Iowa, and attended rural grade school. At age eight her family came to Ringgold county by train, bringing furniture and livestock. They settled east of Diagonal, Iowa on a farm.

She attended Cottonwood school through eighth grade. She graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1929. She entered nurses training in Creston, Iowa earning her RN degree in 1933.

Genevieve and David Lyle Jobe were united in marriage February 26, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska. This union was blessed with five children, Elizabeth Jean, James Edward, Judith Elaine, Jerry David and Virginia Lynn. They lived east of Diagonal until 1941 and they moved to Tingley, Iowa. Dave preceded her in death on May 20, 1960 at 48 years of age.

She joined the Diagonal Methodist Church at 12 years of age and transferred her membership to the Tingley Methodist Church.

In 1946 she became the nurse for Drs. McIntosh and Beamer and later for Dr. Bailey until 1963. She loved people and was devoted to her work.

In 1963 she married a former classmate, Keith Rogers. Moving to Mount Ayr, she worked for Dr. Fell and Clearview Nursing Home. In 1968 they moved to Des Moines where she continued working. Keith preceded her in death.

Besides her love for nursing, she enjoyed her children’s sports, 4-H, neighborhood clubs playing cards and crocheting afghans for all her children and grandchildren. She kept busy doing handwork or baking. In 1996 she moved to Heritage apartments in Mount Ayr. In 2002 after a stroke she moved to Clearview Nursing Home. She enjoyed all the activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands; two brothers, Eldon and Dean Lockwood; sister and brother-in-law, Vinetta and David Hill; grandchildren, Monte Dale Pottorff and Jennifer Ann and Bradley David Jobe; great-grandchildren, Brianna Alizabeth Best and Patrick Michael Kelly, and son-in-law, Jim Pottorff.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Robert) Welsh of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, Jim (Glenda) Jobe of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Judy Pottorff of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Dr. Jerry (Mary Lynn) Jobe of Darien, Illinois and Ginger Lynch of Urbandale, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, and three sisters-in-law, Bertha Lockwood of San Diego, California, Jan Lockwood of Escondido, California and Mary Jobe of San Francisco, California.

Memorials are to the United Methodist Church in Tingley, Iowa. Arrangements were through Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr

Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Tingley on Saturday, September 4, 2010, with Rev. Dan Fernandez and Rev. Charles Hawkins officiating. Musicians included Nancy Sackett and John Allen.

Casket bearers were Le Grande Miller, Michael Wood, Jeffery Jobe, Greg Jobe, Shane Welsh and Robert Lynch.

Honorary pallbearers included Cindy Lewis, Denise Rueschhoff, Barbara Pottorff, Dana Kelly, Heather Hummel, Holly Wasson and Erin Carbonara.

Genevieve was laid at rest in the Tingley Cemetery, Tingley.
