Alberta Lucille Bastow August 31, 1921 – September 24, 2010
After graduating from high school, Alberta was united in marriage to Lee Bastow on December 31, 1940. They farmed near Mount Ayr before retiring to town. Alberta helped Lee with the farm work. She raised large gardens, canning much of their produce. One of Lee and Alberta’s favorite things to do was taking in the auctions wherever they could find one. Alberta also worked for over 30 years as a nurse’s aide at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Lee; brothers, Paul, Garland, Walter and Vern Mathis; sisters, Cordelia Garcia and Norma Goldston; step-brothers, Melvin, Calvin, Earl and Red Combs, and stepsisters, Cleda Miller, Rosie Arkle and Shirley Delana.
Alberta is survived by her sister, Carrol McWilliams of DeSoto, Kansas; nieces; nephews; cousins, and friends.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa in the name of Alberta. Arrangements were made by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.
Services were held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr on Monday, September 27, 2010. Rev. Terry Roberts officiated. Casket bearers were Matt Routh, Gary Saville, Joe Saville, Carl Lilly, Jeff Dawson and Joe Routh.
Alberta was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
