Joseph L. Meindl, Ph.D., 77, of Blockton, Iowa passed away October 6, 2010 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.
Dr. Meindl was born November 9, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Frank and Margaret (Kerin) Meindl. He graduated from high school and then went on to get his doctoral degree in education. He was a career educator at the university level retiring from Saint Louis University in 1998.
Joe married Dr. Ellen Carmelita O’Conner in 1970 in Saint Louis, Missouri. They moved back to Blockton 10 years ago where he settled and farmed. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Maloy, Iowa.
Survivors include his brother, Dr. George (Mary E.) Meindl of Pinehurst, North Carolina; two nieces and four great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Meindl, and his wife, Dr. Carmelita Meindl on September 11, 2000.
Arrangements were made by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.
Services were conducted at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr on Friday, October 8, 2010. Father Glen Wilwerding officiated. Musician was Betsy Keenan.
Casket bearers were Mark Friedman, Clint Drake, Jason Hanshaw, Robert Davidson, Nathan Drake, Lincoln Calvin and Earl Drake.
Joe was laid at rest in the Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Maloy.
