Leroy Waugh December 31, 1924 – November 23, 2010

  Leroy ‘Lee’ Waugh was born on December 31, 1924 and died November 23, 2010 at the Bedford Rehab and Nursing Home, Bedford, Iowa.

He was born to Myrtle Faye (James) and Carl Albert Waugh in rural Ringgold county, Iowa. He attended elementary school in rural Worth county, Missouri. He attended high school in Grant City, Missouri for three years and graduated from Blockton, Iowa.

He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944-1946. On September 10, 1945 he married Vera Jane Garrard of Blockton. To this union three daughters were born.

Leroy worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 36 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. In 1993 he moved back to Bedford where he and his family had previously lived for 16 years.

Lee is survived by his wife, Vera, of Bedford, Iowa; daughters, Barbara (Carrol) Arnold of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Linda (Michael) Hoogland of Mishawaka, Indiana and Alice Griffith of Mishawaka, Indiana; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne Spencer; sister-in-law, Carol Waugh, and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Elvin and James Waugh, and his sister, Helen Waugh.

Services were held Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Redding, Iowa with military honors provided by C A Herrington American Legion Post #167 of Redding. Memorials are suggested to the Bedford firemen or Bedford ambulance.  Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Bedford provided arrangements.  www.EFC.cc.
