Bernadine Gladys Jones March 4, 1918- December 16, 2010
Bernadine Gladys Jones, 92, of Shannon City died Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa. Her granddaughter, Tami Carlson, and grandson, Doug Jones, were at her side.
Bernadine Gladys Hoffman, daughter of Ross and Cordelia Hoffman, was born March 4, 1918 on a farm northwest of Shannon City. Bernadine graduated from Shannon City Consolidated School in 1935.
Bernadine married Glee Jones on April 16, 1936 in Grant City, Missouri. They started their married life together on the Nolan place southwest of Shannon City. In 1944 they purchased a farm two miles west of Shannon City where their son, Ted, now lives.
Bernadine worked for a time at the Swift Chicken Processing Plant in Creston and later she owned and operated the Shannon City Telephone Exchange. She also was a cook at the Shannon school; a clerk in charge of the Shannon City Post Office, and a clerk at Jones Mini Mart in Afton. Bernadine also ran the ‘Cook Shack’ for oil well drillers on the Pole Road west of Shannon City. The most important job she had was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include three sons, Ron (wife Lucille) Jones of Afton, Iowa, Ted (wife Kate) Jones of Shannon City, Iowa and Rich (wife Marcia) Jones of Shannon City, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jan (husband Randy) Pettit and Doug (wife Karen) Jones, both of Afton, Iowa, Tami (husband Greg) Carlson of Corning, Iowa, Traci (husband Ed) Cook of Shannon City, Iowa, Darci (husband Dave) Campbell of Afton, Iowa, Sheri (husband Terry) McNamara of Winterset, Iowa, Dave (wife Mindy) Jones of Shannon City, Iowa and Brad (wife Julie) Jones of Winterset, Iowa; 19 great-grandchildren, Alex and Sara Pettit, Trevor Jones, Logan and Ryan Carlson, Zoie and Emma Cook, Taylor, Haley and Peyton Braman, Cole and Kyle Campbell, Patrick, Madilyn and Elizabeth McNamara, Brock and Jake Jones and Kennedy and Samantha Jones; two brothers, Jack (wife Althea) Hoffman of Shannon City, Iowa and Jerry (wife Ella Jean) Hoffman of Urbandale, Iowa; sister-in-law, Doris Hoffman of Creston, Iowa; nine nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glee in 1996; parents, Ross and Cordelia Hoffman; granddaughter, Tiffani Jones Braman in 2007, and brother, Dale Hoffman in 2003.

Services were held at the Shannon City Community Church in Shannon City on Monday, December 20, 2010, with Pastor Lila Greene officiating. Musicians were Pam Palmer and Don Wilson.
Casket bearers included Randy Pettit, Doug Jones, Greg Carlson, David Campbell, Terry McNamara, David Jones, Brad Jones, Ed Cook, Jan Pettit, Karen Jones, Tami Carlson, Darci Campbell, Sheri McNamara, Mindy Jones, Julie Jones, Traci Cook and in memory of Tiffani Jones Braman.
Bernadine was laid at rest in the Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City.
