Alice Virginia Boyd July 23, 1917 — March 28, 2011
Alice Virginia Boyd, daughter of Raymond and Florence Barnhouse, passed away at home, at the age of 93, on March 28, 2011 with her family by her side. Alice was born July 23, 1917 in Hatfield, Missouri where she grew up with her six brothers and sisters. She graduated from Hatfield high school in 1933. She married Robert Curtis Boyd on January 11, 1936 in Bethany, Missouri. They spent most of their years on the farm south of Grand River, Iowa; living on their farm where she enjoyed being a housewife always cooking, gardening and taking care of her children. Later they would spend several winters in Yuma, Arizona. They moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa in 1965. Alice lived in Mount Ayr for the next 46 years where she enjoyed her many friends and family. She enjoyed her many bridge clubs which she participated in until just recently. She will always be remembered for her beautiful quilting.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Florence Barnhouse; husband, Robert C. Boyd; sisters, Marjorie Barnhouse and Bonnie George; brothers, Verdo Barnhouse and Francis ‘Hank’ Barnhouse.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jan C. Boyd and wife Barbara of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; daughters, Sandra A. Premer of San Carlos, California and Kathryn A. Faust of Mount Ayr, Iowa; sister, Junetta Barrett of Roswell, Georgia, and brother, Hugh Barnhouse of Hatfield, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Shawn and Jennifer Boyd of Richmond, Texas, Megan Premer of Anchorage, Alaska, Marcy and Terry Milby of Pacifica, California, Mary and Randy Arnold of Ankeny, Iowa, John and Sheila Starmer of Prole, Iowa, Dennis and Ginger Evans of Little Rock, Arkansas and Steve Faust of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Chase, Peyton, Hunter, Nolan, Clare, Liam, Bryce, Chloe, Gavin, Heather, Philip and Sara, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial fund has been established for HCI Care Services in Mount Ayr.
Services were held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, April 1, 2011, with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Musicians included Debbie Cannon and Richard and Camille Jackson.
Casket bearers were Larry Barnhouse, Tim Fish, Ron Ury, Shawn Boyd, John Starmer and Randy Arnold.
Alice was laid at rest in the Grand River Cemetery in Grand River.
