HAROLD JOHN DEEMER

Harold John Deemer, son of William and Emily (Pierce) Deemer, was born January 2, 1921 in Decatur county, Iowa.

Harold grew up in Decatur county and graduated from Leon high school. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army from June 1940 until his honorable discharge in January 1946. On December 11, 1942, Harold was united in marriage to Esta T. Walter in Grant City, Missouri. They farmed near Diagonal, Iowa for 11 years before moving to the Kellerton area where they farmed for many years. Harold was a member of the V.F.W. and Ringgold County Farm Bureau. In the spring of 2011, Harold and Esta moved to Osceola.

Harold passed away at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola on October 15, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Deemer; sisters, Maude Bennett and husband Jesse and Irene Ingram and husband Wes; brothers, Albert Deemer and wife Eva, Frank Deemer, Ralph Deemer and wife Helen, Lester Deemer and wife Wilma and Wayne Deemer, and brothers-in-law, Bob Wehrle, Joe Messina and Jack Keller.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Esta Deemer of Osceola, Iowa; son, Kenneth Deemer and wife Patricia of Olathe, Kansas; daughters, Katherine Reynolds of Osceola, Iowa and Patricia Nell and husband Jim of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Nancy Grose of Kellerton, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Wehrle of West Burlington, Iowa and Wilma Messina of Magalia, California; Rosalee Keller of Newton, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Vera Deemer of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Dorothy Neal of Garden Grove, Iowa; nieces; nephews; other relatives, and friends. 

A memorial fund has been established to HCI Care Services.

Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, October 19, 2012, with Rev. Joyce Smith officiating. Musical selections included ‘You Lift Me Up,’ ‘Peace In The Valley’ and ‘Go Rest High.’

Casket bearers were Brian Deemer, Scott Deemer, Matt Deemer, Shane Reynolds, Heath Huff and Christopher Huff.

Honorary pallbearers included Lori Kelly, Kerri Jones, Angie Quintana, Jennifer Grose, Shannon Reynolds, Amanda Reynolds, Jessica Steines and LeAnn Creutzmann.

Harold was laid at rest in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
