To the editor:
Hats off to coach Brad Elliott and the 2020 track team. Due to no fault of their own, it was the season that never was. It began with great promise with senior leadership and experience in many events.
This was a significant year as the Raiders celebrated one hundred years of track in Mount Ayr. Coach Elliott had prepared several surprises, including having the “Voice of the Drake Relays” announce the Raider Relays.
If you have not had the opportunity to view the 100-year track team on Facebook, you should. It is of professional quality prepared by coach Elliott.
However, there is one individual that was omitted.
A mid-distance runner – 400’s and 800’s – and relay utility man from any distance from 100’s to 800’s, his specialty was the open 800.
He was the Class 2A state champ in the 2000 State Meet. His 800 time remains the school record. He went on to NWMSU on a track scholarship.
Later he returned to Mount Ayr to start a business partnership. The boys track coaching position was open at the time, and he began his career as track coach at Mount Ayr Community.
That individual is Brad Elliott.
Congratulations, coach Elliott.
