Medicap Pharmacy is the latest business to succumb to staffing challenges.
The Mount Ayr location is closing due to the retirement of long-time pharmacist Jeff Longstaff, RPh.
Longstaff has served southwest Iowa for over 40 years.
Alex Pettit, PharmD regrets closing the location stating “I did everything I could to keep the Mount Ayr pharmacy open.”
Since Pettit had difficulty finding someone to fill the opening created by Longstaff’s retirement, Pettit made the decision to continue serving customers from the Creston location.
Pettit states in his closing announcement, “I feel it is best to consolidate with the Creston location to efficiently serve all of our patients.”
They do plan to offer a weekly delivery service to Mount Ayr after the consolidation.
A partnership with Ringgold County Hospital (RCH) brought Medicap Pharmacy to the community when the hospital expanded their facility in the spring of 2021.
Now they are closing, just two short years after they initially brought their services to Mount Ayr.
Ringgold County Hospital CEO Nicky Gilbertson states “He had to make a difficult decision, and we support him in that decision.” While Ringgold County Hospital does not yet have plans to fill the building space, Gilbertson noted “we are exploring all options in filling the vacancy his departure leaves.”
The last day to pick up prescriptions in Mount Ayr will be July 28, 2023. The store is closing on July 30 and all records will be transferred to Medicap Pharmacy located at 405 S. Sumner Avenue in Creston.
After the Mount Ayr location closes at the end of June, you can reach Medicap Pharmacy by calling 641-782-6558.
