With Thanksgiving next week and Christmas only 34 days away, many county groups and organizations have announced planned for special holiday events.
Bake sales
Two bake sales in the Ringgold County courthouse lobby have been announced.
The first, sponsored by Ringgold County Democrats, will be held Tuesday, November 26 beginning at 8 a.m.
Available will be cookies, cakes, pies, cupcakes, homemade French bread, frozen casseroles (for take-home baking), cheesy potatoes, ham balls and much more.
Partial proceeds will go to local charities.
The following day, Wednesday, November 27, the Redding United Methodist Church will hold its pre-Thanksgiving bake sale beginning at 7:30 a.m. and running until they’re sold out.
Turkey Trot
The seventh annual Turkey Trot will get underway at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.
The 5K run/walk, two mile and one mile routes and kids “Wibble Wobble” around the square will originate this year from the Ringgold Outdoor Alliance building on Monroe Street behind the Community Health Care Clinic.
Prizes will be awarded for most family members participating, oldest and youngest participating, and best dressed. (Costumes are highly encouraged.)
The entry fee is a food or monetary donation to the Ringgold County Neighborhood Center.

Holiday meals
• The Wishard Chapel Community Church will host its chili, oyster stew and potato soup supper and dessert smorgabord Saturday, November 23 from 5-7 p.m. at the REC building in Mount Ayr.
A free will offering will be accepted.
Wishard Chapel cookbooks will also be available for $15.
• The New Life Family Church will host its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner Sunday, November 24 at the church located at 1605 W. South Street (Highway 2) in Mount Ayr.
The meal will follow the 10:30 a.m. contemporary church service with guest speaker Pastor Al Hazelton.
The Open Closet will also be open, featuring lightly used clothing, household items and coats.

• The Wagon Wheel Cafe in Tingley will host a Thanksgiving buffet Thursday, November 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Adults are $12.95 with children 10 and under $8.95.
• Ramsey Farm will serve a Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations required. Call 641-414-8550 for reservations.
Holiday Lights in the Park
Ringgold County Conservation and the Ringgold Conservation Foundation are holding their Holiday Lights in the Park event at Poe Hollow Park.
Dates for the event include November 29 and 30 and December: 6, 7, 13 and 14 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. each night.
Entry fees for this event are: $5 per car for each drive through where visitors will be able to drive through Poe Hollow Park, marveling at the lighted displays in a winter wonderland.
The Dragoon Trace Nature Center will be open during the lighted park, so make sure to swing in for a visit and vote for your favorite displays.
There will be a vendor fair at the nature center on Saturday, December 7 and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the nature center on Saturday, December 14 during the lighted park hours.
Display sponsors include Cecil and Patti Dolecheck Families, Eighmy Monument, First Christian Church, Mount Ayr Hy-Vee, Mount Ayr Lions Club, Munyon Plumbing and Heating, Pioneer – Bishop Farms, Princess Theater, Ringgold Outdoor Alliance and United Farmers Coop.

Stage performance
The Princess Theater and Moonlighter’s Theater Group will present a production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. in the Mount Ayr high school auditorium.
Tickets are $10 and available at the door.
Simply Voices
The local singing group Simply Voices will hold their annual Christmas concert on Saturday, December 7 at 4 p.m. in the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church.
The performance will include a children’s choir and returning special guest performer Drew Ingram.
The Methodist Youth soup supper will follow at 5 p.m.
Christmas parade
The annual lighted Christmas parade sponsored by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce will get underway after dark Saturday, December 7.
The Mount Ayr Public Library will hold its holiday open house beginning at 5:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to watch the parade from the warmth of the library.
