At 1 p.m. sharp on Tuesday, these youngsters were ready for their first dive at Judge Lewis Park pool. The pool has reopened with some COVID-19 restrictions.
In a special meeting held Friday, June 26, the Mount Ayr city council approved the opening of the public swimming pool at Judge Lewis Park effective Tuesday, June 30.
Hours of operation are 12 noon to 8 p.m. with 5-6 p.m. reserved for adult swimming.
Family season passes will cost $70, with single passes $40. Daily admission is $5. Daily patrons are asked to bring exact change.
Due to COVID-related restrictions, no pool toys, noodles, floatation devices or lifejackets will be allowed in the pool.
Patrons will be asked to complete simple swim test to be able to swim in the 10 foot.
A lost and found is not available this year. Patrons should make sure they leave with their belongings. Anything left at closing time will unfortunately have to be discarded.
There will be no concession stand.
Hired as manager was Blair Glendenning at $11.75 per hour with Myles Greene to serve as assistant manager at $10.75 per hour.
Glendenning also has a pending $1,000 stipend for certification as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
Base wage for lifeguards was increased 50 cents an hour to $9. Returning lifeguards also receive 25 cent increases per years of service.
Approved as guards at Friday’s meeting were Zach Murphy ($10.25), Rachael Lutrick ($9.50), Olivia West ($9.50), Trae Ehlen ($9.25), Madi Birkenholz ($9.25), Maddie Steward ($9.25), Sam Stewart ($9.25), Tegan Streit ($9), Kylian Wise ($9) and Kalee Wise ($9).
Public and private swimming lessons will be available with costs yet to be determined.
