Classes at Mount Ayr Community High School were dismissed Friday afternoon upon the discovery of a bomb threat written on a stall in a boys restroom.
According to Ringgold County Sheriff Rob Haley, his office received a phone call from the school about a bomb threat at the high school September 4 at approximately 1:50 p.m.
The high school was dismissed a short time later due to the safety of students and staff.
Officers with the sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol investigated and assessed the situation and determined that there was no bomb. The juvenile responsible has been identified and will be referred to juvenile court services.
“All threats to our school, students, and staff are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly,” said MAC superintendent Jason Shaffer. “An individual of interest has been identified and the Ringgold County Sheriff is investigating the incident. We were able to resume classes today [Tuesday].”
