To the editor:
I would like to write in support of Joseph Norris for State Senator. As a former teacher, I appreciate the fact that he has done his homework by talking with area experts most of whom, like the citizens of Ringgold County, have not heard much from Mark Costello. One of the big issues today is early voting, Norris reported that Mr. Costello did not talk to a single one of our six Auditors before voting on HF 2486 which changed the way Auditors conduct early voting. Mr. Norris called everyone of them and they reported to him that they did not like that bill. Mr. Costello did not talk to Public Health Administrators in the midst of a global health crisis but Norris did and he reports they are struggling. Nor had Costello talked with area hospitals like Ringgold County Hospital, often the biggest employer in the community about how they are doing. Privatization of Medicaid, supported by Senator Costello, is destroying our rural hospitals. Between 2016-2020, Costello received 75% of PAC money from healthcare PACS in Des Moines and DC who favored the privatization of Medicaid. Finally, I would like to remind current and former educators, that Mr. Costello and his party were responsible for ending collective bargaining. We need Joseph Norris in the Iowa Senate to represent us. Questioning Senator Costello at legislative coffees demonstrated a lack of understanding of the problems faced by Ringgold County.
