Quad State Classic
Two Raider wrestlers recently joined rare Raider company after getting their 150th wins.
Seniors Trae Ehlen and Bryce Shaha have been wrestling with each other since they were four years old and happened to reach 150 career wins at the same meet in Maryville despite going through different injuries and outcomes throughout their careers.
Mount Ayr has only had one other Raider reach the 150 win mark, Joe Ricker.
Mount Ayr now has three in the record books as young Raider wreslters will look to join them in the future.
The Raiders overall had success at the 2021 Quad State Classic in Maryville, Missouri, placing second overall as a team, just behind Bedford/Lenox.
The Raiders saw Drew Ehlen earn two pins against Graham Hawks and Mizael Gomez while Jarrett Webb defeated Caleb Lucas of Rock Port by an 11-4 decision.
Webb would fall to Mason Hamilton in round three.
Bryce Shaha defeated Zach Pelletier and Leo Wardlow before defeating Presten Drager by fall.
Trae Ehlen had a busy day defeateing Nate McNew, Dawson Stream, Connor Johnson and Gabe Abbott.
Jaydon Knight defeated Jacob Gray, Kolbe Benes, Maven Vette and Jastin Johns.
Knight defeated Jayson Baker in the first place match as well.
Keaton White defeated Trenton Beck, Jules Gates and Kasten VanMeter before falling to Drew Spire in the first place match.
Braydon Swietlik defeated Austin Tidwell and Benton Crabtree but fell to Keiren Watkins and Colten Stevens before finishing out the day with a fall over Duncan Marshall.
Bedford/
Lenox Triangular
The Raiders participated in a triangular in Bedford recently, with Bedford/Lenox and Maryville.
The Raiders were able to overcome Maryville 48-24 but fell to Bedford/Lenox 43-42.
Against Maryville, the Raiders saw pins for Drew Ehlen, Trae Ehlen, Jaydon Knight, Keaton White and Braydon Swietlik.
Against Bedford/Lenox, the Raiders lost a narrow contest by one point.
The Raiders had falls from Jarrett Webb, Bryce Shaha, Payton Fleharty, Trae Ehlen, Jaydon Knight, Keaton White and Braydon Swietlik.
Bedford was able to capitalize on seven Mount Ayr forfeits to take the win.
The Raiders will head into sectionals this weekend before district wrestling starts February 13.
With Mount Ayr wrestling at a high level, led by Shaha, Ehlen and Knight, the Raiders look to repeat success from last year’s state wrestling run.
Jaydon Knight will be entering sectionals with an undefeated 37-0 record this season.
The wrestlers will head to Corning on Saturday for Sectionals where all of Mount Ayr’s wrestlers will be looking for a trip to the podium.
