To the editor:
I would like to thank Lola Link for her well-written letter several weeks ago concerning our local American Legion. She is correct about the American Legion family needing community support and participation. Those who regularly attend breakfasts and dances weekly are greatly appreciated! Thanks also to the organizations and individuals who give montetary donations to the Legion.
Remember everyone who served in the military since 1941 are now eligible to become members in our Legion. Since our members are aging, it is difficult to honor our service members at funerals like they deserve. Most of us are in our 60’s, 70’s, and older. At some point younger members need to step up and support this organization, or it won’t be around.
The community can continue to show support by attending our functions, renting the building for their activities and organizations, and volunteering to sponsor fundraisers for our Legion. This helps pay for building upkeep and keep the lights on. Only $5.00 from membership dues stays at our Legion. That means we are dependent on our local community for support.
To those in our community, those members who support us, and those who plan to join our American Legion, I sincerely thank you!
