The Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 10:45 p.m. on May 29 about a missing male subject in Ringgold County.
According to the incident report, it was reported Daniel Clint Ahrens of Adel had gone fishing at a farm pond two miles south of Ellston in the morning and had not come home.
Upon arrival at the pond at 11 p.m., authorities found a canoe upside down in the water approximately 15 feet from shore.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., the Ringgold County dive team located the body of a deceased male about 15 feet from shore in approximately eight feet of water.
A short time later the deceased was positively identified as Ahrens.
The deceased was transported to Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr by Ringgold County Ambulance and later transported to Ankeny to the state medical examiners office.
The cause of death has been listed as an unattended death pending upon autopsy results.
Assisting the sheriff’s officials, dive team, and ambulance personnel were the county medical examiner, county emergency management, and Mount Ayr and Union Township fire departments.
