Mt. Ayr 3, Lenox 0
The Raiders hosted the Lenox Tigers Tuesday, June 1, before traveling to Afton for a contest against the East Union Eagles on Thursday.
The Raiders went the distance with Lenox, defeating them 3-0 to open up the short week. The Raiders scored one in the first and two in the third to make up their three runs.
Early in the contest, Erik Trujillo was sitting on third and in an attempt to score, coach Chris Elwood gave him the run order. Trujillo met the Tiger catcher at the plate and after some contact was made, was ejected.
“I want to publicly apologize,” said coach Elwood. “That was my call and it wasn’t a good one. I told him to go and it was a mistake.”
The ejection meant Trujillo would miss the game against East Union on Thursday as well.
Coming in for Trujillo was freshman Ryce Reynolds who was able to step in at right field and even at-bat to make a difference, drawing the walk which would turn into a run in one at-bat.
The Raiders have had success on the mound as well, splitting the Lenox duties between Jaydon Knight and Jaixen Frost.
Knight received the win after pitching four innings, allowing one hit, walking two and striking out eight.
Frost relieved Knight and closed out the contest, allowing one hit, walked one, hit one by pitch and striking out seven.
At the plate, the Raiders recorded three runs on four hits, walked seven and were hit by pitch twice.
Trae Ehlen nearly had his first career home run out of left field, but an impressive play by the Tigers left fielder saw him reach over the fence and make the catch.
The Raiders improved to 4-1 on the season.
“Jaydon and Jaixen played phenomanally well,” said coach Chris Elwood. “I made some bad calls on tag-ups and possibly ran us out of some bigger innings. I told the guys thanks for picking me up and hopefully I do better next time.”

Mt Ayr 15, EU 3
The Raiders started the night off early with six runs in the second, however, the Eagles added two of their own.
Mount Ayr would go on to add 11 more over the next three innings, while allowing one to the Eagles.
Dawson Swank was on the mound for the Raiders, pitching five innings, allowing three runs off four hits, walking two and striking out seven.
At the plate, the Raiders recorded 15 runs off 14 hits, nine of which were singles, three doubles and a triple.
Briar Knapp recorded his second home run of the season that knocked in two RBI.
“We really hit the ball hard, the guys did a really good job with their at-bats,” said coach Elwood. “East Union put balls into play and our defensive made plays which is what you need to do.”
