The Iowa Department of Education recently released its annual Performance Profile for Iowa schools.In the latest report, Mount Ayr Elementary school received an overall performance score of 62.77, significantly above the state average of 54.70.
The latest score of 62.77 is in line with scores of 63.89 in 2018 and 64.23 in 2019.
The latest score rated the school’s performance rating as “High Performing,” a designation it has maintained for four consecutive years. (No performance report was compiled in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic’s impact on schools.)
The six performance categories are determined by a range of scores:
Exceptional
66.31 <
High Performing 60.61 – 66.30
Commendable 54.91 – 60.60
Acceptable 49.21 – 54.90
Needs Improvement 43.96 – 49.20
Priority/Comprehensive

In the latest report, Mount Ayr Elementary school scored above state averages in all nine performance indicators.
The latest report shows 80.39 percent of Mount Ayr students are proficient in English, compared with a state average of 68.95 percent.
The same is true in math, where 86.27 percent of Mount Ayr students show proficiency, compared to the state average of 65.21 percent.
Growth in language arts and math proficiency also exceeded state averages.
A student growth percentile (SGP) describes a student’s growth compared to other students with similar prior test scores (their academic peers).
Growth in Language Arts for Mount Ayr students measured 58.5, well above the state average of 50.
Growth in math was even more impressive, coming in at 71.5, significantly higher than the 50 state average.
Mount Ayr’s lowest score came in the Conditions for Learning indicator.
This measure is calculated from anonymous surveys given to students in grades 3-12 in which they judge their school on such indicators as emotional and physical safety, student to student relationships, adult-student relationships, and expectations and boundaries.
In this area Mount Ayr scored 42.86, still above the state average of 41.67.
