To the editor:
Since 2016, we have witnessed displays of vulgarity and meanness of spirit on the part of politicians seeking Andy Warhol’s “fifteen minutes of fame.”
The latest 15 minutes of fame politician is State Representative Bobby Kaufmann of Wilton who addressed like minded supporters at the Convention of the States rally.
Ensuring his place in the lexicon of the ignorant, Bobby ended his speech by flipping the bird at the federal government.
One would think that his 2012 arrest and guilty plea for public intoxication plus 17 additional citations and arrests for traffic related issues would be all the fame that he would want. Not for Bobby who continues to promote false claims of voter fraud and proposed legislation in the Iowa House of Representatives to restrict voting rights in Iowa, despite the fact that there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in Iowa or in any of the other 49 states.
As a former high school teacher, Representative Kaufmann’s obscene gesture is not unfamiliar and always prompted this response, “Is that your age or your IQ?” So which is it, Bobby?
