To the editor:
Thanks to the USDA, meals provided to our students have been served free of charge since the COVID Pandemic started. This has been very beneficial to families in our community. Due to guidance we have received from the Federal Department, the students will not be receiving the free breakfast and lunches for the 2022-2023 school year. We understand that this will be a big change for families, so we wanted to make sure that all families are aware of this in advance.
We understand that meal costs can be a financial burden, so please fill out an application for free and reduced lunches. This is a great option that is available. An application will be mailed to all families after July 1, 2022. The application will also be available for pick up in the District Office. Applications have not been released by the USDA, but we will send out a notice when the applications are available. We encourage families to fill these applications out and turn theminto Macy Jarred at the District Office-1001 East Columbus St.
If applications are submitted and accepted prior to school registration on July 26th , the school registration fee can be waived or reduced based on application status. A waiver will be received by mail or given to you when you turn in your applications. Please be sure to bring this waiver with you to register. All applications and the status of these applications are kept confidential.
*Note: Families that are prequalified will be receiving a letter. If your family receives this letter, an application does not need to be turned in to receive the free and reduced benefits.
We are happy to let all families know that we will be offering online accounts that will be linked to your children’s lunch/breakfast account. You will be able to view the account balances, receive low balance reminders, and make payments. This will be a very helpful tool throughout the school year.
Thank you for understanding. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us with any questions at 641-464-0500. We look forward to serving your kids next year.
Sincerely,
Jason Shaffer, MAC Superintendent
Macy Jarred,
District
