Street bids, nuisance on city council agenda

Beyond an update on planning for a new municipal swimming pool at the their meeting July 5, the Mount Ayr city council acted on several other agenda items.
During Tuesday’s meeting the council:
• approved the bid from TK Concrete of Pella for the resurfacing of Valley West Drive.
City administrator Brent Wise reported a loan of $50,000 would be taken from the city’s Local Option Sales Tax fund to help pay for the project.
The accepted bid to replace the concrete surface and curbs and gutters totaled $131,610.
• heard a request from property owner Don Zollman for additional time to bring his properties into compliance with city nuisance ordinances. Noting Zollman still had 30 days remaining on the original notice to abate the nuisances, the council declined to offer an extension at this time.
• approved the repair of a pump used at the Pasture Lift Station for $11,042.
It was noted a new pump would cost approximately $20,000.
• hired Blair Glendenning as the Water Safety Instructor at Judge Lewis Pool with the wage of $1,500.
• authorized Mayor Steve Fetty’s signature on the agreement between the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the City of Mount Ayr for a grant award.
In a related matter, the council approved the subordination of mortgage for Matthew Hudson: 38H Construction as a component of the project to renovate the former Odd Fellows building into retail space and apartments.
• approved renewal of Casey’s General Store Class E Liquor License with Sunday Sales Privileges and Sub Permits Class B Wine and Class C Beer Permit.
• set a public hearing on FY2023 Budget Amendment #1 for the August 1 council meeting.
• set a special work session for Monday, July 25 at 6 p.m. for discussion of enterprise funds, along with budgetary considerations.
