The town of Tingley hosted their Third Annual Homemade Ice Cream Contest on Sunday, August 28 in the Tingley Memorial Park. The event more than quadrupled the number of people that live in the small community.
The Hoover Angus Ice Cream Contest had 28 entries, and first place in each class won $150, second $100, and third $50. Winning first place in both the Vanilla and Anything Goes class was John Overholtzer. Ann Iannotta came in second and third place in the Vanilla class as well as second in the Anything Goes class. The winning entries in the Anything Goes class were Schokolade Knirschen (German for Chocolate Crunch), Cabernet Ice Cream, and Maple Praline Pecan.
New to this year’s event was the Jenny Tull Memorial Pie contest sponsored by the Tull Family. Chosen from over 40 entries, first place and $200 went to Susie Catanzareti with her Golden Delicious Apple Pie, 2nd place and $150 went to Shelbie Haidsiak with her Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie, 3rd place and $100 went to Cathy McGahuey with her Fresh Peach Pie, and 4th place and $50 went to Brenda Woody for her Black Raspberry Pie.
The Show & Shine Car Show brought in 101 vehicles of all types – from pulling tractors and race cars to air boats and semi tractors, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
A presentation by Ranger Kate, face painting, and numerous kids’ games entertained the youth.
Bob Johnson put on an event and clinic for stock dog handlers.
Two musical groups kept toes tapping.
Ringgold County Cattlemen sponsored and grilled the free hamburger meal that was followed by a free will offering for homemade pie and ice cream. Money raised from the event will be used for upkeep and betterment of the Tingley Memorial Park.
