To the editor:
While I may not agree with re-electing Chuck Grassley who has torpedoed the idea of term limits, I am, with the possible exception of the “Give em the Bird,” candidate, not embarrassed by the Iowa candidates of both parties. And, I am really glad that I don’t live in Georgia.
Just when you think that the Georgia GOP could not come up with a worse candidate than Marjorie Taylor Greene enter Herschell Walker.
Ms. Greene who has been described by the Georgia GOP as not “bright and a bully,” [their words, not mine] is obviously unqualified for office of a U.S. Representative. But in comparison to Senate candidate Herschell Walker, she may actually look smart.
On the upcoming, October 14 debate with his opponent Senator Warnock, Walker says, “I’m not that smart, although he claims to have graduated from the University of Georgia in; the top 1% [he did not] and a Valedictorian of his Johnson High School class [he was not]. He’s a preacher, [Warnock] is smart and wears these nice suits.”
On the issues of the day, Walker appears not to have any grasp or understanding. For example, when asked about gun control following the Uvalde shooting, he proposed, “a department that can look at young men that’s looking at women that’s looking at social media.”
On climate/Green New Deal/air he made an equally nonsensical statement, “Since we don’t control the air our good air decided to float over to China’s bad air so when China gets our good air, their bad air got to move. So, it moves over to good air space. Then now we got to clean that back up.” On evolution, he said, “if evolution is true, why do we still have apes?”
You might ask yourself, why is this patently unqualified individual in a position to be elected to the U.S. Senate? Georgia’s GOP Lt. Governor Goeff Duncan said, “Georgia needed a representative in the Senate [to upset Warnock] to gain control of the upper chamber. We didn’t ask who was the best leader. We didn’t ask who had the best resume. Unfortunately, Republicans looked around to see who Donald Trump supported. And, he was a famous football player.”
Conservative Radio Host, Dana Loesch describes GOP support for Herschell Walker, a bit more crudely, “I don’t care if Republican Senate nominee Herschell Walker paid, ‘some Skank for an abortion, I want control of the Senate.’” Despite his strong “family values” and pro-life stance,
Walker has had four children with four different women and according to his son, Christian Walker, “Wasn’t in the house raising one of them. He was out having sex with other women.” In 2020, Herschell Walker condemned “absentee fathers” in the African American community.
Considering a political party’s willingness to support unqualified candidates, simply because they are either a Republican or a Democrat, it is no wonder that the Founding Fathers were so opposed to the formation of political parties.
