The state of secondary roads, was a major topic at the February, 6 county board of supervisors meeting.
County engineer, Jared Johnson, submitted a plan of action and budget proposal.
The plan of action would impact approximately 7 miles of county highway J55 and two bridges.
The plan in question will require the resurfacing of the mentioned portion of J55.
The length of the highway being reconditioned will extend from county highway P46, otherwise referred to as the Sale Barn Road, east to the Lott’s Creek bridge.
Due to the nature of the planned construction, both lanes of highway will be closed down at the same time.
As both lanes will be closed, Johnson wanted the resident who live along the corridor, as well as anyone who uses J55 regularly, to be aware of the closure, and plan accordingly.
In partnership with Manatts contracting, the company fulfilling the bid, the county advises that there will be a dedicated detour, as well as accommodations made for residents who live along the route of construction.
The two bridges being repaired are the Wolfe creek bridge, in the south eastern part of the county, and the Turkey creek bridge on 190th street near Clearfield.
With the J55 project being of most concern, Johnson related a potential time frame for the work.
He stated that the project had a late start date of July 24, 2023.
This means that the contractor has until the specified date to begin work or risk being billed for days not on project.
As to the project time frame, Johnson said the company allowed for 65 working days , excluding days off and holidays, to complete the work.
Johnson’s goal is to have the work completed in a timely fashion, while ensuring a high quality road for the county, while also causing as little in convenience for the public as possible.
