No action was taken by the Mount Ayr city council to move forward with constructing a new pool at last week’s regular meeting. The Mount Ayr Record News looked into the history of various plans and actions taken to provide options for a new public pool in Mount Ayr since 2007. This is a preview of an upcoming 3-part series showcasing the work of many people over the past 16 years.
The existing pool at Judge Lewis Park was originally built in 1963 with funds from a bond issue. At that time, it cost $66,000 to build the pool with its diving board and since dismantled diving tower, wading pool for toddlers and bath house.
Now 60 years later, with project funding finally in place, the City of Mount Ayr has yet to take action on any of the various project proposals or concepts presented between 2008 – 2022.
