Charles William Fifer
Charles William Fifer was born December 8, 1933, in Allendale, Missouri to Leo and Reeta (Ackley) Fifer. He graduated high school in Harveyville, Kansas.
He met Rosa Robison in Grant City while working on construction. They were married May 27, 1956, and were married for 68 years. They had 3 children, Billie, Roy and Kathy. Bill enlisted in the Army in 1956. On June 30, 1956, Bill was supposed to fly out of California and missed his plane, that plane crashed with another plane over the Grand Canyon, and everyone died. He was thankful he missed that plane.
Bill worked for the Kellerton Oil Company delivering fuel, the children all liked his deliveries because he brought candy. He was a member of the Kellerton Fire Department and on the City Council. He worked for the county on the road crew for almost 25 years. After retiring in 1995 from the county Bill spent time helping Roy insulate houses.
Bill’s nickname was snowman. He loved hunting and trapping, gardening, mushroom hunting and his peach trees. You could find him doing almost anything outside. He was always willing to help anyone with any project they were working on. He worked hard and never complained.
He loved his grandkids and always wanted to spend time with them. He was a great father, grandpa, and pillar of the community and he will be dearly missed by all.
Bill passed away on July 27, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother George Fifer; sisters Audra Wilson, Alice Richardson, and Aline Grove; son Billie Fifer; and grandson Mark Comer.
Bill is survived by his wife Rosa; daughter Kathy (Randy) Johnston; son Roy (Tammy) Fifer; grandchildren Billie Hood, Kristy Hood, Mariah (Adam) Fifer, Kim (Jim) Monroe, Ciera (Bryce) Wood, Chace Willets; numerous great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren, brother Paul Fifer, other relatives and friends. Services were held 10 a.m. ~ Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
