Daryl Holden
Daryl Holden was born to Robert Carter Holden and Lola (Davis) Holden on August 31, 1930, as Daryl always said on his grandmother’s kitchen table.
Daryl graduated from Mount Ayr high in 1949, working at Rexall drug store until 1952 when he entered the U.S. Army as an engine mechanic with the 930th Engineer Aviation Battalion Combat Engineers, eventually stationed in Korea from 1952 to 1953. Upon returning home Daryl worked for R&J Implement on Ford tractors.
Daryl married Shirley Motsinger on September 25, 1955. To this union, a son, Brad, was born in 1957. In the mid-sixties Daryl went to work for Country Boys Lumber yard where he remained until the early 70’s when he was hired by the Iowa D.O.T. working his way up to supervisor. After retiring in 1992, Daryl settled down on the farm working on lawn mowers and anything else with an engine.
Daryl passed away on August 24, 2024, at Clearview Nursing Home. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 51 years, Shirley.
Daryl is survived by his son Brad (Desiree); grandchildren Amber of Mount Ayr, Brandon (Alyssa) of Ellensburg WA; great grandchildren Finley and Adalyn also of Ellensburg.
As per Daryl’s request there will be a graveside service only with family present at a later date. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is caring for Daryl’s family.
