One Hundred Years Ago
(From the Mount Ayr Record-News,Thursday, February 11, 1925.)
Mrs. Noah Saltzman enjoyed a visit last week with her brother, John McCord of Alaska, who stopped in Mount Ayr enroute home from a visit in the east.
For many years Mr. McCord, who is a civil engineer, has been employed in Alaska. He has for the past few years been interested in the development of oil fields in that region and a few years ago induced a number of the larger companies to become interested. He has had a rather spectacular career and has found it necessary on numerous occasions to exhibit manly courage, as a result of which Rex Beach found him a suitable character to use in his story “The Iron Trail,” the setting for which was found in Alaska.
While in the city Mr. McCord met many of his boyhood friends.

On Friday night of last week the local high school boys cage quintet went to Redding for a game. But after four quarters of hard playing they nosed out the Reddingites by the score of 22-21. It was said by some of the Redding rooters that it was the best game ever played on the Redding court.
