Bret Ruggles
Bret Ruggles is the new activity director at Mount Ayr Community Middle/High School following action at a special meeting of the MAC board of directors Monday, March 24.
Ruggles replaces long-time AD Scott Giles, who decided to step away from those duties. The change is effective at the conclusion of the current school year.
In other personnel matters, the board accepted the resignations of Michael Moran, K-12 dean of students, Junior Raider sponsor, and middle school baseball coach; and Deb Reed as bowling coach.
The board also approved three service contracts.
It renewed the contract with Timberline Billing Services to continue providing Medicaid billing and other services for special education students.
Simbli was approved to provide an electronic management system for board policies. Superintendent Jason Shaffer explained all board policies are currently recorded as one large Google Doc. The Simbli system will provide links to each different policy. More important, the system has a search feature that will allow much more efficient access to policies devoted to specific key words. The new system will cost the district a one-time set-up cost of $1,000 with renewals running $1,600 annually.
A third contract went to Vista Time, a personnel and attendance management system. At a $1,600 annual fee, the new system costs thousands less than the current system from Frontline. In addition, Vista Time system will work seamlessly with the district’s accounting software.
Prior to the business meeting, the board held a public hearing on the property tax levy rate for the upcoming fiscal year. Receiving no written or oral input from the public, the hearing opened and closed in a matter of minutes.
