To the editor:
If any community member has not been to the Mount Ayr Public Library in a while, you need to stop in.
Thanks to the Ringgold Foundation, which is a Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines affiliate, our library has many new updates. Thanks to a 2024 Ringgold Foundation grant, we have two beautiful murals created and painted by Jane Uhlenkamp.
The mural in the children’s section is a parody of Orr Fisher’s Corn Parade mural and has many new and old book characters. This mural is absolutely breath taking!
The other mural is in the entry welcoming patrons to the library. Both murals are beautiful beyond words!
Our Mount Ayr Public Library Board cannot thank the Ringgold Foundation and Jane Uhlenkamp enough for these two murals!
Thanks to the Ringgold Foundation grant, our children’s section received a wonderful makeover allowing us to purchase about a 100 new children’s books ages baby to young adult as well as a colorful rug, colorful chairs, window cushion, kid’s table and chairs, and puzzles. Children’s artwork is also featured thanks to this grant.
It is exciting to walk into the library and seeing several children enjoying this space. This past February, 257 books were checked out to children through young adults compared to only 53 last February!
Our library has new lighting and has been repainted thanks to grants from the Ringgold Foundation. Your support of our library is so appreciated! Thank you so much for believing in us and supporting our big projects! Thanks also for inspiring others to make donations to our library.
Those $100 and $500 donations make a huge difference in helping us to buy new books and to offer summer programs for children.
If you have not been in our library these past few months, you have no idea what you are missing! We hope to see you soon!
Lynne Wallace,
Mount Ayr Public
Library Board
