Notice to Vigilantes: All members of the Ringgold Vigilance Committee are urgently requested to attend the Bankers and Vigilance committee picnic at the Howard Lesan farm four miles east of Mount Ayr on primary #3, Wednesday afternoon, June 24.
Matters of special importance are to be considered at this time and there will be target and pistol practice. Bring all equipment issued by the Bankers Association.
Breezy Briefs from Tingley~The hail storm Sunday was the largest the writer ever saw. We picked up one as large or larger than an unhulled walnut. Fortunately there were not many of them or no one knows how much damage would have been done. Both of the large windows in the old bank building were broken. So far as we know this was the only damage done by the hail.
Your attention is called to the fact the supply of water in the water works pond is getting so low that it becomes necessary for all water users of the town of Mount Ayr practice economy by using water only for such purposes as are absolutely necessary.
It is requesting that city water be not used for watering lawns, gardens, and washing, cars until the supply has been replenished. Your compliance with this request will avoid the necessity of making a ruling that water users who fail to cooperate will be denied the use of city water.

Keith Lininger was appointed by the board of supervisors at the regular July session as a member of the Soldiers’ Relief Commission of Ringgold county for a term of three years. He succeeds William S. Breckenridge. Mr. Lininger is the first World War II veteran to serve on the commission.
Tingley News~Lyndon Richards sold his general store to Wayne Honn the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Honn took possession
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Winthrop and Barbara of Bedford, and Mr. and Mrs. David Hill, Patricia, Betty and Dick, came with well filled baskets and helped their father and grandfather, Chas. Hill, celebrate Father’s Day.

Members of the Mount Ayr Lions club elected officers at their monthly meeting June 10. Heading the club for the year starting July 1 will be Jim Hurd. He will be assisted by theses officers: John Schafer, 1st vice president; Ed Dugan, 2nd vice president; Randy McDonnell, secretary/treasurer; Bob Erickson, tail twister; Ken Hunt, lion tamer; and second year directors are Gerald Babcock, Lester Sickels, LBanks Wilson; one year directors Craig Elliott, Elmo Roe and Paul Kniess.
The Christian Church of Blockton will celebrate its 75th anniversary and the 40th year in the ministry of Rev. George W. Swan on Sunday June 20.
Work started Sunday on the revamping of the Mount Ayr Golf & Country Club course. Equipment moved in to cut a new green for the #7 hole, which will be located west of the present #7.
Steve Roe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Roe of Mount Ayr, began work Monday as a pharmacist at the Hartig Drug store in Dubuque.

Ringgold county’s oldest citizen turned 104 years old Monday at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Gladys Johnston has been a resident of the home since 1988. She was born June 19, 1896 near Caledonia and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Stuck. She graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1915 and was a basketball player for the high school girls team.
Ringgold County Public Health held a child safety check last week at the car lot of Jobe Chevrolet~Pontiac. Twenty-seven child safety seats were checked, 18 of them were recalled with 17 of them being destroyed.
Dr. Keith Miller of Mount Ayr, president of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Assoc., was on hand at a special ceremony in Des Moines where Governor Tom Vilsack signed a bill about certification of veterinary clinics.
Scott Peterson of Mount Ayr won first place in the A feature race at Interstate 35 Speedway at Winston, MO., Saturday night.

From the locker room at Mount Ayr Community high school to the pinnacle of professional sports the career of one former Raider has skyrocketed over the past eleven years. But from his seat at courtside as the assist athletic trainer of the newly-crowned NBA champion Golden State Warriors, Drew Yoder, a Mount Ayr 2004 graduate, still credits family ties in setting him up for his current success.
On going negotiations with Rod Shields concerning the job description and possible contract for the road superintendent position was a main item of discussion at the June 22 meeting of the Ringgold Count board of supervisors.
