One Hundred Years Ago
(From the Mount Ayr Record-News, Thursday, August 12, 1925.)
After being successfully engaged in the clothing business in Mount Ayr for fifteen-half years. Charles Agee has sold his stock and fixtures to Charles Hetzel and LeRoy Saltzman. The inventory was completed yesterday and the business turned over to the new proprietors. The style of the new firm will be Hetzel & Saltzman.
Exemplification of the truth of the statement, “This is Iowa where it always rains fifteen minutes before it is too late,” was furnished Thursday when, six days after the close of an excessively dry July, the flood gates were opened and the 2.16” of rain descended in time to revive all vegetation, which had begun to show the effects of dry weather.
One Feather, a full blood Sioux Indian, 85 years old and the last surviving Indian Chief of the Custer fight will be in the city with the Robins Brothers Four Ring circus shortly.
He realizes that the day of the Indian is over. As he describes it: “The Indian sun has set. He has melted away like a snow bank under the white man’s sun. He soon will be gone. So white man wins.”

Birth: August 5, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Jess Simmons.

Seventy-Five Years Ago
(From the Mount Ayr Record-News, Thursday, August 17, 1950.)
Five young men from Ringgold County eligible for military service, reported Tuesday for physical examinations at the Old Federal Building in Des Moines.
They were included in the county’s first armed forces physical examination draft call since December 7, 1948. Men included in the call are as follows: Joseph Wilson Seaton, Delphos; Clayton Dale “Bill” Rinehart, Mount Ayr; Kenneth Ray Creveling, Ellston; Warren Linden Drake, Mount Ayr; and Reason S. Creveling of Beaconsfield.
Richard Culver , son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Culver of Maloy, died early Monday morning in a Manchester hospital from a broken neck suffered Sunday afternoon when he dove into shallow water.
Marriage: Saturday Rena Walters and Bill Smith.
Births: August 11, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Clark..August 10, daughter, Katherine, to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bryan..August 16, a daughter, Lora Lynn, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mohr..August 11, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Everett Fletcher.

Announcement of a change of ownership of Bastow Feed and Grain Inc. was made last week effective July 1, 1975. The new owner of the elevator and feed business will be James Webb, son-in-law of Robert Bastow, who joined the firm in the spring of 1974.
Ten members of the 1975 Raiderette softball squad were awarded varsity letters at the annual potluck picnic, held at the Lake of Three Fires near Bedford.
Coach Mark Larsen presented letters to seniors DeeDee Frost, Cathy Foltz and Debbie Ballard; juniors Diane Wilson, Jenifer Parker, Stacey White and Cindy Strange; sophmores Jean Irving and Ruth Bryan, and freshman Sherri Wood.
Marriage: June 22, Marilyn Triggs and Paul Bierma..June 21 Marta Berkgren and Ron Morgan.
Births: August 5, a daughter, Megan, to Mr. and Mrs. John McFarland..August 7, a son to Rev. and Mrs. Gary Gonnerman..August 8, a son to Jackie Percell..August 11, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Martin.

Twenty-Five Years Ago

The new Ringgold County Supportive Services building is taking shape on South Henderson Street north of the county garage. Framing has been completed and the roof is being placed on the facility, which will provide programs for handicapped adults.
Seven new faculty for MAC schools. The new certified staff will be secondary principal at junior and senior high, Darrell Bartling; Marilyn Rippey special education and high school musical; coach Drew Larsen; elementary principal Rob Olsen; 6th grade teacher, Jodie Boord; special education teachers Julie Stewart and Amy Whittington.
Pen of three fair winners announced. Tanner England showed the championship lamb trio and Eric Richardson showed the championship pen of three swine.
Ten Years Ago

New staff in the Mount Ayr schools for 2015-2016 include Heather Buckner, elementary paraprofessional; JoAnn Sheil, 3rd grade; Courtney Tingwald, vocational agriculture; Christy Still, elementary paraprofessional and Ron Sickels, elementary paraprofessional and bus driver.
Members of a Kellerton family were involved in a fatality accident on Hwy 69 about 13 miles south of Indianola. Eric Fuller,9 years and his grandmother, Karla Handy,72, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
PCSB Bank held a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting Friday to introduce the community to their new bank on Hwy 2 in Mount Ayr.
