Gilbertson named 1st Team All-State

By Ryan Stonebraker

DES MOINES, Iowa — Mount Ayr junior forward Izzy Gilbertson already has quite a following and is often the focus of opposing defenses. This past season, the Raiderettes leading scorer turned in her best season of her career and people took notice. Recently, the Iowa Print Sportswriters Association named Gilbertson to their first team All-State team for Class 2A on March 9
Gilbertson was 11th in Class 2A in scoring with 457 points and a 20.8-point scoring average. Gilbertson also averaged 9.2 points and 4.0 blocked shots a game this year. Her 87 blocked shots were second in Class 2A behind Central Decatur’s Breegan Lindsey who had 92.
“She does a lot for us and it’s not just the points,” Raiderettes coach Thad Streit said. “She gets a lot of rebounds and assists. Izzy was a good ball handler as well and could start a lot of fast breaks for us without having to outlet the ball to someone. That’s a huge advantage.”
Joining Gilbertson on the first team were seniors Sydney Doeschot from Hinton, Izzy Eisbach from Nodaway Valley, Danika Hoogendoorn from Central Lyon, Haevyn and Hudsyn Ranschau from Rock Valley and Rachel Schany from Emmetsburg. Also on the list was Iowa City Regina sophomore Addie McLaughlin.
Last Thursday, Gilbertson also picked up her second All-State honors, as she was tabbed a third team selection by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Gilbertson was joined on the third team by  Nora Koz (Treynor); Maiah Murphy (Grand View Christian); Bailey Boeve (Hinton); Grace Richter (Maquoketa Valley); Taylor Rypkema (Central Lyon); Isabella Schisel (Garner-Hayfield-Ventura); and Brynn Clarahan (Sigourney). Rock Valley head coach Jordan TeGrootenhuis was named the IGCA 2A Coach of the year after leading Rock Valley to a state title win over defending champion Hinton, 67 to 57.
