Sheriff Marion Stephens received last week from the motor vehicle department of the office of Secretary of State W.C. Ramsay a communicaton calling attention to the importance of strict enforcement of the law which prohibits the use of glaring headlights and quoting from letters received related to disregard of the law. In a notice owners and drivers of automobiles, published in this issue of the Recor-News, Sheriff Stephens gives notice that the law must be observed in Ringgold County.

A deal was closed Saturday whereby Pete MaGrath purchased from Hugh Irving his interest in the Home Bakery, possession being given Monday morning. The style of the new firm will be NcNerney & MaGrath.

The Methodist church in Kellerton was the scene Sunday for the dedication of the new Hammond organ and chimes, presented the church by the J.F. Merritt family in honor of the memory of Archie G. Merritt.

Robert Bastow and Wilbur Faris, of Liberty Township, returned Saturday from Springfield, IL, where they attended the National Duroc Show.

Reuben Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Earfl Gaule and Gary Lynn and Deanna Kay, went Sunday to Benton to spend the day with Mr. Lane’s brother Fred Lane and family. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Marion D. Lane and Frances, of Creston, and Mr. and Mrs. James Haley and family of Benton.

Donald Bosworth, who is presently stationed in North Korea. Donald is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bosworth, of Tingley.

The letter, under date of July 3, reads, in part, as follows: “I certainly appreciated your letter very much. A fellow over here certainly enjoys reading mail from the people who are thinking about him. So thanks again for your thoughtfulness. We have been in North Korea for over a month now and are the mountains ever rugged and high. I’ve never seen a country that could have so many mountains,

although there are some nice valleys in between these so-called ‘high hills.’ When you have to climb them all the time it really toughens up a fellow.

At the present we are in a valley in a rest area somewhere in the central part of North Korea and about four miles behind the front lines. I have been in several attacks and it has been rough at times. As

I’m the medic I get my share of work while on line, but here at the rest area we have it quite easy. The whole 1st Battalion is set up here in the valley and we have the big guns of the artillery close by, so you see we have plenty of protection. They have movies every night at battalion headquarters, so I usually take them in. There is also a mountain stream running by our camp, and so we get a good chance to wash up as well as wash clothes. Hope this finds you well and happy. I’m fine and still going strong

Another drive for Judge Lewis Park improvement started last week as softball enthusiasts opened a fund for new lights and electric scoreboard for the softball diamond.

Last year, individuals, the school, and the town joined forces to construct a chain link backstop and fence down the foul lines. The year before that, the same groups cooperated in construction of a new concession stand with public drinking water and toliet facilities.

Mrs. Alan Fetty and Marcia Vick were supper guests Thursday of last week of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Rule. They have been attending summer sessions at Northwest Missouri Staet University at Maryville.

Loch Ayr will be opened to promiscuous fishing from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, according to fisheries biologist Joe Schwartz. This means that all methods of taking fish can be used at Loch Ayr except

dynamite, poison, electrical shocking devices or any other substance which stupefies fish; seines, nets, or traps can be used, however. Normal catch limits are also suspended so the usual limit of 8 catfish, 5 bass, or 5 walleye do not apply during this period.

Schwartz reports the lake is open to promiscuous fishing so as many fish as possible can be used by the public before the kill-out. Suspension of limits is also under effect during the kill-out and people can take as many fish as they want then.

Paul Ramseky’s dream that young people might have the opportunity to experience farm life as he did in the 1930s in Leasonville in Ringgold County are coming closer to being realized.

Already the barn on the farm has been restored and a school house building moved to the site. Later this month the two-story home constructed by Burrit M. Lesan a mile away in 1904 will be  on site and work is being done to arrange for a church building as well.

Mount Ayr Massage Therapy Clinic at 102 E Adams Street was welcomed by the Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce Friday. Cherrye Still is the owner of the clinic.

After months of preparation on Tuesday, July 26 the city of Mount Ayr welcomed well over 10,000 bicyclists who were riding on RAGBRAI, the oldest and largest across country bicycle tour in the world.

The Ringgold County Sheriff’s office is investigating a theft from a local church.

According to Skip Rushing, the pastor or the  United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr, reported that someone stole a 32” television and Bose radio from the church sometime between July 17 and July 20.
