LEON, Iowa — Something had to give in the match last week at Central Decatur between the Raiderettes and the home Cardinals. Both teams came in having lost their last five matches and both were looking for a valuable Pride of Iowa Conference win.
It wasn’t meant to be for one team, and that was the CD Cardinals. Mount Ayr would capture its third win in 14 matches with a 3-1 win. The Cardinals are still looking for their first win.  Five of the previous six matches between the two schools went to the Raiderettes. Mount Ayr lost a lot of hitters from last year’s team that won 28 matches.
Mount Ayr had 106 attacks with 39 kills in the match. Dannie Stewart had 36 attacks and 18 kills for the Raiderettes. Jaylee Shaffer had 29 assists and Stewart and Mackenzie Jackson each had 10 digs. Mount Ayr served 85-for-96 with 25 aces in the match. Shaffer led going 30-for-33 with 11 ace serves.
Central Decatur had 104 attacks in the match and 17 kills from those attacks. Soiyer Smith had 32 attacks and led CD in kills with five. Zoey Quigley had 24 attacks and three kills. Landi Leeper added four kills on 19 attacks. Jordan Dittmer led in assists with 12 and Izabelle Patterson had eight assists. The Cardinals defense had 56 digs led by Landi Leeper with 14 and Smith with 12. Dittmer and Lakyn Mundy each had nine digs.  Central Decatur served 56-for-71 as a team with 11 aces.  Leeper led, serving 17-for-20 with three ace serves.
Mount Ayr needed four sets in the match to get past the Cardinals. The Raiderettes won the first set 25-9 for a 1-0 match lead and took a commanding 2-0 match lead with a second set win over 25-18. Central Decatur prevented a Mount Ayr sweep with a 25-23 third set win to get the score to 2-1.  Mount Ayr, however, would take the match, winning the third set 25-18.
