Edwin L. Faris (January 4, 1879-February 26, 1929)
Edwin L. Faris was born January 4, 1879, on the old Faris farm north of Mount Ayr, Iowa and grew to manhood there. he graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1898, taking the four year course in three years and riding from home the first two years, a distance of four miles. The year he graduated he lived in town, making it easier for him. He left soon after his graduation for his work in Missouri and later in Oklahoma. He was married to Florence Taylor, April 12, 1923, and has resided in Oklahoma most of the time since, the last ten years in Enid. He has been for many years with the Pioneer Loan Co. of Oklahoma City and was still in their employ. On February 17th, after attending church both morning and evening, he was taken ill and the attending doctor said “flu” which soon developed into pneumonia and resulted in his death February 26th.
Funeral services were held in the First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Luther Edwards, and burial at Guthrie by the side of his brother, John L., who died in 1911. He leaves a wife, mother, two brothers, W.T. Faris of Perry, OK., and V.S. Faris of El Reno, OK., and a sister , Mrs. George Denhart of Mount Ayr, Iowa, who were present for the funeral.
The pall bearers were Mrs. Faris’ Sunday school class. The flowers were numerous and beautiful. The funeral was largely attended. Relatives from Amarillo, TX., Topeka and Winfield, KS., were present.
His firm from Oklahoma City, with all their helpers, met them at the grave and were present at the last services before laying him in his last resting place. His place will be had to fill.
