Emma R. Pierson Lesan (June 24, 1855-February 18,1929)
Emma R. Pierson, daughter of Chambers and Martha Pierson, was born June 24, 1855, at Mt. Gilead, OH., and passed away at the home of her son, Howard Lesan, February 18, 1929. Her last illness was of long duration, dating from two years ago the first of last August
At the age of seven years she was brought with her parents to Iowa the family making the journey in a covered wagon during the year 1861.
Prior to her marriage she taught in the rural schools of Ringgold County.
She was married to Joseph E. Lesan in June, 1874. To this union four children were born. The eldest , a daughter, died in infancy, and Mary, the youngest, died at the age of six years. There remains of the immediate family two sons, Howard Pierson, of Mount Ayr, and Charles Karr, of Madera, CA., five grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. J.E. Scott, of Mount Ayr, and Mrs. Martha E. Trindle, of Los Angeles, CA. The husband, Joseph E. Lesan, preceded her in death, passing away February 15, 1917.
Years ago she and her husband united with the United Presbyterian Church of Mount Ayr. The family were regular attendants of the church and Mrs. Lesan was active in the various organizations until she was prevented by ill health.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the United Presbyterian Church, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.S. Gladfelter and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
