John Otto Fry (April 5, 1852-March 27, 1929)

John Otto Fry, the second son of William S. and Marinda Smith Fry, was born April 5, 1852, near Jeffersonville, Clarke County, IN., and departed this life March 27, 1929 at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Until the age of twenty-one, his life was spent on the home farm of his parents, where his early training fitted him most admirably for his life’s vocation, that of farming.

In 1873, with his parents, he removed to Ringgold County, where he has since resided for fifty-six years. With the exception of a few years spent in business in Mount Ayr he was actively engaged in farming until his retirement in 1913.

On April 26, 1882, he was married to Sara Elizabeth Belknap of Jeffersonville, IN. He is survived by his wife and three sisters, Miss Sallie Fry and Mrs Emily Struthers of Altadena, CA., and Mrs. Charles Hickman of Abraham, UT.

Thus in brief has been presented the history of a long life now ended. The  devoted wife mourns a loving husband, his life-long associates a true friend, and the Mount Ayr community a loyal and public spirited citizen.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Methodist Church, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.S. Menoher, and the body was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery.
