PHIETTA WILDERMUTH DEFENBAUGH

PHIETTA WILDERMUTH, DAUGHTER OF JOHN AND SARAH WILDERMUTH, WAS BORN IN FAIRFIELD, OHIO, ON JANUARY 23, 1855 AND PASSED AWAY FEBRUARY 24, 1943, AT THE AGE OF 88 YEARS, ONE MONTH AND ONE DAY.

SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE ON JANUARY 26, 1873, TO HENRY DEFENBAUGH, WHO PRECEDED HER IN DEATH. TO THIS UNION WERE BORN 12 CHILDREN, FOUR OF WHOM, SALLY, ARCHIE, FOSTER AND ELMER, PRECEDED HER IN DEATH. THOSE LIVING ARE OLGA NAPIER OF MOUNT AYR, CLARA SHOWALTER OF REDDING, GEORGE OF PUEBLO, CO., MARY SHAFER OF DES MOINES, JOHN OF LODI, CA., AND STELLA RUSH OF CORYDON.

MR. AND MRS. DEFENBAUGH MIGRATED FROM OHIO TO RINGGOLD COUNTY IN 1887 WHERE THEY RESIDED ON A FARM UNTIL THEY MOVED TO REDDING ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO.

SHE JOINED THE UNITED BRETHERN CHURCH WHEN A GIRL IN OHIO. AFTER MOVING TO IOWA SHE TRANSFERRED HER MEMBERSHIP TO THE METHODIST CHURCH OF EUREKA.

MR. AND MRS. DEFENBAUGH LIVED TO CELEBRATE THEIR 64TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARYT. THEY HAD CELEBRATED MORE WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES THAN ANY OTHER COUPLE IN RINGGOLD COUNTY.

BESIDES THE CHILDREN MRS. DEFENBAUGH LEAVES TO MOURN HER DEATH 19 GRANDCHILDREN, 21 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND A HOST OF FRIENDS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FRIDAY AFTERNOON FORM THE RHOADES FUNERAL HOME IN MOUNT AYR, CONDUCTED BY THE REV. THOMAS KELLY, PASTOR OF THE METHODIST CHURCH. INTERMENT WAS MADE IN THE MIDDLE FORK CEMETERY.
