Donald Kibbe January 23, 1935-July 31, 2009

On January 23, 1935, Donald Leroy Kibbe was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa to Henry Arthur and Ollie Mae (Kimble) Kibbe. He departed this life on July 31, 2009 after fighting a lengthy lung illness at his home. He was surrounded by numerous family and friends during his death.

Donald attended Mount Ayr high school but, due to economic times, he was forced to begin working at a very young age as a laborer and a brick carrier. For a short time, he went to work for the railroad in Saint Joseph, Missouri with his brothers, Chuck and Bob. Donald then went to work for the City of Mount Ayr and then went to work for the State of Iowa which he retired from back in the early 90’s. Don was a hard worker no matter what the task was in front of him. Donald was a lifelong resident of Mount Ayr except for one year when he lived in Greenfield, Iowa so he could work at Schielberg’s quarry.

In 1961 he married Sadie Faye Perry in Greenfield, Iowa and they were blessed with a son, Dwayne A. Kibbe, in December of 1962. In 1985 they were blessed with their first grandchild, Starla Rose Kibbe, and in 1989 they were blessed with their second grandchild, Steven Wayne Kibbe.

Don and his son, Dwayne, were both baptized by Rev. Edward Shields on Tuesday, July 28, at 3:15 a.m. in Don’s house.

Donald will be missed by many friends and family. Survivors include his son, Dwayne Kibbe of Ottawa, Kansas and grandchildren, Starla and Steven Kibbe of Overland Park, Kansas; siblings, John and wife Karen of Portland, Oregon, David and wife Gloria of Corning, Iowa, Barb and Ted Foland of Grant City, Missouri, Pat and Drexel Musik of Grant City, Missouri and Dorothy Burgmeyer of Columbia, Missouri; mother-in-law, Lucille Perry of Mount Ayr, Iowa; a special friend and confidant, Judy Clymer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his special wife and best friend, Sadie, in 2003; parents, Henry Arthur and Ollie May; brothers, Bob Kibbe, Dean Kibbe, Charles Kibbe and Dick Kibbe; sister, Mary Ellen Greene, and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kibbe and Lois Kibbe.

All donations will be donated to the greatest organization — Hospice of Central Iowa.
