Elma Lucille Willey March 2, 1922-August 12, 2009

Elma Lucille Willey was born March 2, 1922 in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was the sixth child in the family of seven. Elma was the daughter of Willard R. Willey and Maude Elizabeth ‘Rusk’ Willey. Elma passed away August 12, 2009 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr at the age of 87 years, five months and 10 days.
Elma went to the First Christian Church for 21 years while living in Mount Ayr. She joined the church and was baptized on December 11, 1938. Elma graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1940. She was united in marriage on July 19, 1942 to Hallie R. Moore of Mount Ayr. Hallie joined the Navy on September 20, 1942. She joined him in December of 1942 and lived the next three years on Ocracoke Island off the coast of North Carolina. They returned to Mount Ayr on November 26, 1945.
To this union was born a daughter Connie Sue, two sons, Hallie, Jr. (Bob) and Wayne Lee.
She spent several years of her life caring for the elderly and was instrumental in making the Afton Care Center a reality in Afton, Iowa.
Elma loved to travel and saw 47 states including Hawaii on her vacations. Elma and her husband retired in 1986 and spent three winters in Yuma, California before returning to Iowa, living in Afton with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hallie in 1996, parents, a sister Iona; brother Clair (sister-in-law Lucille); sister Maxine (brother-in-law Frank Kimble); nephew Jim Kimble; sister Lola (brother-in-law Gerald Hailey).
Elma is survived by her daughter Connie Sue, husband Donald Roan of Afton; her two sons, Hallie, Jr. ‘Bob,’ wife Janet (Fry), of Nodaway, Iowa and Wayne Lee, wife Mary (Paardekooper), of Afton; two granddaughters, Christine (Roan) Reed, husband Troy, of Washington D.C. and Stacy Lynn Moore of Afton; three grandsons, Danial Roan, wife Amy (Berry), of Thayer, Darren Moore, wife Michelle (Zotz), of Ankeny and Troy Moore, his wife and family; great-grandchildren, Patrick R. Harden, wife Amanda (Beede), of Des Moines, Olivia and Draven Moore of Ankeny and Jesse, Ben and Emma Roan of Thayer; sister, Pauline McCutchan of Mount Ayr Health Care Center in Mount Ayr; brother Gerold Willey, wife Jean of Mount Ayr and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on August 15, 2009 with Rev. Dwayne Henrichs officiating.
Casket bearers were Darren Moore, Danial Roan, Patrick Harden, Christine Reed, Stacy Lynn Moore and Ken Campbell. Honorary pallbearers were Patrick Harden, Olivia Moore, Draven Moore, Jesse Roan, Ben Roan and Emma Roan.
Elma was laid to rest in the Rose Hill C
