Lyle L. Thomas, age 66 of rural Lamoni, Iowa, passed away on September 10, 2009 at home with his wife, Bonnie, by his side, following a long battle with cancer and strokes. Lyle was born to Russell and Ruth (Little) Thomas on July 19, 1943 in Decatur county, Iowa.
Lyle was united in marriage on June 7, 1963 to Bonnie (Sutherland) Thomas. Born to Bonnie and Lyle were three children, Cindy, Brad and Sonya. Lyle was employed by the Lamoni Packing Plant, Lamoni Chronicle, owned a milk route for 17 years, was a stock truck driver for 10 years and was a rural mail carrier for 12 years.
Lyle was a good father and loving husband and loved being with his grandchildren.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie Thomas of Lamoni, Iowa; daughter Cindy Greubel and husband Joe and children Taylor, Bailey and Dylan Greubel of Indianola, Iowa; son Brad Thomas and wife Allyson and children Dalton and Parker Thomas of Sheldon, Iowa; daughter Sonya Youngblood and husband Craig and children Carter and twins Grant and Macy Youngblood of Waukee, Iowa; sister-in-law Jane McCullough and nephews Rick Thomas and Rod Thomas and wife Julie, all of Colorado; aunts, Marie Woodard and husband Lorin of Leon, Iowa, Helen Brant of Colorado and LaVon Thomas of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and other relatives and friends.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ruth Thomas, and brother, Lyndon Thomas.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Pastor Terry Roberts officiating. Burial was in Trinity Hills Cemetery west of Decatur, Iowa.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Christian Church or to the Mount Ayr office of Hospice of Central Iowa.
