Nola Lavon Adams Sweitlik – March 23, 1933 – September 19, 2009

  Nola Lavon Adams Swietlik, loving mother and wife, was born March 23, 1933 to Lewis and Hazel (Baker) Adams in Ringgold county, Iowa. She departed this life at the Ringgold County Hospital on September 19, 2009 at the age of 76 years, nine months and 19 days.

Nola was born southwest of Mount Ayr near what is known as the Marsh. She spent all but three years of her life in Ringgold county. She started to school in Benton for the first and second grades. The remainder of the elementary years was spent at local country schools. Her first year of high school was spent in Diagonal and the remaining three years she attended Mount Ayr high school where she graduated in 1950.

Nola worked hard throughout her life. She was a clerk in several stores and also a bookkeeper for Langes Dairy, Anthony’s, seasonal at Green Hills Fertilizer and also for Bill Sickels Garage. She was also employed for many years at Casey’s General Store.

Nola loved old country music and in the later years she fulfilled that love by being able to sing at the Midwestern Country Music Theater.

On July 12, 1956 Nola married Joseph Swietlik and to this union were born four children, Debra, Steven, Teena and Nancy.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; brothers, Russell and Raleigh Adams and an infant brother, Eugene Adams; sisters, Genevieve Page, Bernadean Hribal and Lillian Skinner; brothers-in-law, Albert Page, Joe Hribal and Cecil Adkisson, and two sisters-in-law, Donnis Adams and Vivian Adams.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debra Siedelmann of Audubon, Iowa, Steven Swietlik and wife Sandra of Tingley, Iowa, Teena Church and husband Ron of Beverly, Kansas and Nancy Bohanan and husband Scott of Corning, Iowa; a very dear friend, Harold Gilbert of Bedford, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Shanna Spurr and husband Jayson, Kelsey Church, Jeremiah Swietlik, Brandon Church, Jessica Swietlik, Amanda Bohanan, Tyler Church, Ryan Bohanan, Elizabeth Siedelmann and Brittany Bohanan; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Spurr, Braydon Swietlik, Haylie Spurr, Mallorie Church, Cassidy Swietlik, Cooper Bradley and Kayten Swietlik; brothers, Doyle Adams and wife Renabelle of Knoxville, Iowa and Delbert Adams of Creston, Iowa; sister, Pauline Adkisson of Mount Ayr, Iowa; sister-in-law, Leola Adams of Mount Ayr, Iowa; brother-in-law, Willard Skinner of Omaha, Arkansas, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home

in Mount Ayr on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 with Rev. Charles Weiman officiating. Musicians were Butch and Ina Chapin.

Casket bearers were Jeremiah Swietlik, Brandon Church, Tyler Church, Ryan Bohanan, Jayson Spurr and Joseph Hribal.

Nola was laid at rest in the Marshalltown Cemetery, Ringgold county, Iowa.
